Sri Rama Jayam

The Senji Singavaram Ranganatha Temple  is a cave-temple in Tamilnadu, India dedicated to God Ranganatha and Goddess Ranganayaki Thayar. The temple is very old Pallava period structure, and was patronized by subsequent rulers.

24 feet long idol of Ranganatha, carved from living rock, is in a reclining pose on the coils of the serpent Ananta. It is bigger than the idol in Srirangam. Lord Ranganadha is favorite god for king Desingu Raja, who ruled Gingee. There is a tunnel from Gingee Rani fort to the temple.

The temple is on hill and can be reached through 163 steep steps.

It mentions a legend explaining why the head of the image was turned away. The story goes that Desing Raja consulted the god whether he should fight Sadat Ulla Khan on a day mentioned, was told not to, persisted in declaring his intention of doing so, and was answered by the deity sorrowfully averting its head.

Location:

The Singavaram Ranganatha temple is located about 4 KM from the Gingee Fort, and 160 KM from Chennai.
